Proposed Community Garden in Oaklands Park

Updated May 2018

The Oaklands Community Association is proposing a community garden to the City of Victoria. After an extensive community consultation process throughout 2016, 2017 and now into 2018 and through discussion with the City of Victoria, the proposed site is in the Oaklands Park between the baseball diamond and the playground mostly on the  northwest side.

The volunteer led community garden in the Oaklands Park will be a beautiful public space where neighbours can get to know each other, where children will cultivate an appreciation for nature’s bounty, where people with disabilities can learn and experience the satisfaction of growing their own food and where those without land can participate in the wider community and its efforts to improve sustainability and grow some great food.

The garden will be managed as a valuable resource by community volunteers to enhance and maintain the beautiful splendor of the park.

It is anticipated that a formal proposal will go to the City of Victoria shortly. There will follow an extensive review and consultation process at the city.

WE WILL POST MORE INFO ABOUT THE LATEST GARDEN DESIGN SOON

The garden will be constructed in phases over a three year period. Please read the documents provided here for more information. This video celebrates the role gardens and gardening can play in healthy aging.
